UWCCD hosted an Information Booth for outreach and fund-raising.  From 10:30am to 4:30pm on Saturday, about 17 students, mostly from Diamond Bar High School, worked at the UWCCD booth, helping distribute flyers and asking for donations. By the end of the day, we were able to raise more than $420 in donations and we also collected several bags of empty bottles which were recycled for $11.15!

It was a lovely day, with lots of sunshine and a large crowd. We all had lots of fun! Click here to view some photos of the event.

A big thank-you to all those who helped out at the booth and a big thank-you to all who have donated.

The money collected will be used 100% towards the construction of a dining room at the elementary school in Gui Yang where our Youth-to-Youth Assisntance & Communication Program is currently running.

May 17, Saturday, 2008

UWCCD held its 1st annual party for the US sponsoring students, parents and volunteers in California at the Ronald Regan Park in Rowland Heights, CA,  from 12:30pm to 6:00pm on May 17, Saturday, 2008.

About 53 people attended the event, including students who, although not currently in our program, have been invited by the sponsoring students to come and learn about UWCCD.

Many parents generously brought food, drinks and donated gifts. High-school student volunteer Liang-Kai and Joanne acted as the MC, other high-school student volunteer Gerald, Howard and Jennifer helped organize the games and other activities.

During the event, Certificates of Appreciation were presented to those who have been actively supporting the programs and activities of UWCCD. Annual Reports of UWCCD are presented and questionnairs about the planned 2009 Summer Camp in China were also distributed.

Although the weather was very hot, the food was just delicious, the drinks were plenty, and most of all, the games were exciting. All kids (and some young-at-heat parents) have had the greatest fun with the water balloon!

While the kids were having lots of fun, parents also enjoyed the time by renewing friendship, making new friends and sharing interesting life stories. Conversations inevitablly turned to the tragic earthquake in Sichuan, China, and many parents suggested things UWCCD could do to help the kids there.

All in all, everyone has had such a wonderful time that we forgot about the time and stayed all the way till 6:00pm.

A big thank-you to all those involved to make this event a success. And special thanks to those invited by our sponsoring students who have joined us for the first time.
