How to Sponsor a Student |
Program Introduction
How the needy students are identified
We are currently working with several groups of local grass-roots volunteers in China who are university students on special leave from the university to teach and work at various elementary schools, some of them are designated as the "Hope Elementary Schools", in some of China's poorest areas. These volunteers, through their first-hand contact and personal knowledge would recommend the needy children to UWCCD. These volunteers also help administer the aid distributions and provide periodic status report on the students in China.

We also have a system where the initial information about the recommended students in China are verified and the follow-up status reports reviewed by volunteers unrelated with those making the initial recommentdation. Periodically we will send UWCCD staff to program areas for on-site review and inspection as well. This is to ensure the integrity of the process and make sure that the donations are used properly.

How much of the students' information is made public
After a student is recommended by volunteers in China, we will post his/her information, including the photo when available, on the pages of "SPONSOR A STUDENT NOW!" at this site.
To protect the privacy of these children, we will NOT show publicly on this website their full names. We will assign unique numbers to identify the children in need and will also omit the children detailed street address. Once a parent/child in the US decides to sponsor a child in China, the full information of the student to be sponsored will be made available to the sponsors. |
