Program Introduction

How much is needed to sponsor a child

UWCCD's Youth-to-Youth Direct assistance program primarily focuses on elementary students, although we'd also have some middle school students when the cases are reported to us by the local volunteers in China.

UWCCD sets the standard amount currently needed to sponsor a student in China’s rural areas as follow:

  • $60 (approximately RMB450) for one elementary student for one year
  • $120 (approximately RMB900) for one middle school student for one year

Based on our research and also detailed discussions with the local schools and volunteers, we believe this amount should be reasonablly sufficient to cover the expenses for books, basic school supplies and food allowance during the period.

To ensure the continued education of a student, especially an elementary student, we recommend a minimum contribution of $120 per student, i.e. to sponsor an elementary student for 2 years.  We will contact the donors for sponsorship renewal by the end of the 2-year period.
