Special features of the program

  • A program by the children & for the children  
  • Commitment & involvement by both students and their parents
    • The children fulfill their commitment by undertaking appropriate household chores and "earn" pre-agreed money from their parents
    • The parents monitor & encourage the children’s fulfillment and help contribute the money to UWCCD on behalf of the children
  • Transparent process
    • Detailed information of the individual children posted online
    • Every dollar donated by the sponsors (less fees charged by financial institutions for receiving and/or sending the money) is sent to the student. Records of when the money is sent and the exact amount the child receives are timely reported online for the sponsors to review
    • UWCCD monitors the progress in China and report back to the sponsor on how the money is actually spent and the learning status of the students in China
  • Communication & exchange between the sponsor and the sponsored students
    • The students in China report their progress by submitting school reports
    • The students in China write to their sponsors and the sponsoring students are encouraged to respond back
    • UWCCD will facilitate the communication whenever and wherever needed
    • Summer camps will be organizaed, when appropriate, where the students in the US can meet their sponsored students in person
